NEWS & NOTES
Olfactory NYC added a Date Night Kit!
PlayStation is adding smell to its games. PlayStation is taking gaming to a whole new sensory level—smell. At CES 2025, Sony unveiled its Future Immersive Entertainment Concept (FIEC), complete with “smell-o-vision” technology. Imagine playing The Last of Us with not just stunning visuals, gripping audio, and intense haptics, but also scents wafting through your gaming space. You’d be fully immersed in the post-apocalyptic chaos—though let’s be real, who’s excited about sniffing a clicker? Love it or hate it, this isn’t totally out of left field; Sony’s been cooking up scent-based gaming concepts for a while now, with patents hinting at exactly this kind of wild idea.
Meanwhile, the fragrance world at CES 2025 had less show-stopping hardware but revealed where the real innovation is happening—behind the scenes in R&D labs and AI-driven platforms. Standout concepts included L'Oréal’s My Aura, a game-changing universal perfume dispenser; Korea’s Digital Cent custom scent capsule system; Kirin’s Electric Salt Spoon (yes, it makes low-sodium food taste saltier); Kurimoto’s SoftMRF, a texture-shifting haptic fluid; and Skyted’s 320 headset, which creates personal sound—and possibly scent—bubbles (I also remember seeing a perfume robot on social media). While the hardware might not steal the spotlight, it’s clear that sensory tech is quietly reshaping how we experience scent in everyday life.
The TikTok ban lasted 14 hours, but some say things are no longer the same. Many in the fragrance community are flocking all Meta apps, some finding homes on Substack. Welcome, fragheads! Here are some scent notes shared across the board during this weird week (weird year, decade—possibly century).
