The Garden, a volunteer-run sculpture park between Little Italy and Soho, is a cherished green space and sanctuary, and faces destruction for housing development. Many, including P.S. 130 students and local seniors, have been fighting to preserve it. ๐จ
Hello friends! This is Nadia ๐ Fall is around the corner as the last weekend to wear white pants is getting close. Iโm very much a PSL girl myself (and proud of it), and v excited for the pumpkin spice paraphernalia that we will be bombarded with for the next few months.
Todayโs newsletter will cover: upcoming perfume events, scents from OURSIDE NYC, & a special Perfumeverse NYC trip weโre planning.
SOTD: Dusk by OURSIDE NYC
I was recently lucky to be gifted a discovery kit from OURSIDE NYC, a small-batch perfume brand crafted right here in the city. The nose behind the scents, Darryl Do, runs the only (family-owned) fragrance flavor manufacturing facility in NYC!
has a great interview with both Darryl and the founder, Keta. The set included three EDPs they carry, Nostalgia, Moon Dust, and Dusk. All of the fragrances are very cohesive and perfect for layering one another, as well as strong and long-lasting; a couple spritzes can fill up a room very quick.
My favorite, Dusk, feels like golden hour: that moment when the sun is gently slipping away from us. It starts with a touch of sweet, ripe fig, like the golden glare shining through stained glass. As it settles, you get the earthy warmth of vetiver, reminiscent of sitting on a well-worn pew in a dimly lit, empty cathedral. The frankincense adds a sensual, smoky vibe. It slightly reminds me of Eidesis by Aesop, and would layer so well with it. Iโm enjoying these communion-like scents; I recently fell in love with Clue Perfumeryโs With the Candlestick. Dusk is a sensual, deep, but calming and peaceful scent that I will definitely be wearing this Fall. Well done, Keta & Darryl.
Moon Dust is much more airy and aquatic than I initially thought from the name. Itโs bright, opening gently with jasmine, almost like a cool breeze brushing past you. Then, the white musk comes in, soft and clean. Thereโs a touch of earthy palo santo, grounding the scent, making you feel like youโre walking barefoot on cool, damp earth. Itโs clean, fresh, and very subtle for me. But, quite a comforting fragrance that reminds me of the end of summer nights and would layer well with many fresh scents.
Nostalgia is quite a juxtaposition for me. It starts off with a stunning burst of dewy white florals, but just as you begin enjoying the bloom, a sharp concoction of grapefruit and mint disrupts this garden, in a way that is off-putting for me. Usually, I love balsam, but there is something with the Peru balsam and patchouli that isnโt sitting right with my nose; the dry down leaves me wishing it leaned more into its creaminess and floral moments. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite, but it is still a beautiful composition that as mentioned, fits perfectly with the other two.
